Ampersand Project

More info

This was an ISTD brief called "& tu, Brute?" which encouraged the exploration of the English language and typographic characters. Focusing on the ampersand, I created a publication which would highlight the beauty of this typographic symbol and its many different styles. I chose to illustrate popular pairings which would appeal to the target audience of both designers and students, such as well-known twosomes Tom & Jerry and Laurel & Hardy.

As a 'collectable' publication, it would instigate discussion of the ampersand and when or when not to use it. The style of each ampersand aims to suitably express the pair and its meaning. This then encourages the reader to view the ampersand in an illustrative way, highlighting its individual qualities such as line and shape. The brief also required a poster to be designed to accompany the publication. I chose to include this within the book as a fold-out double-sided poster.

Allure Book

More info

I proposed a brief to create an attractive book for a fictional ladies' vintage clothes chain called Allure. I aimed to illustrate its grandeur and the variety of clothes it sells.Allure caters for the woman who appreciates quality clothing reminiscent of past styles from the 1920s to '60s. I chose to design two double-page spreads per decade, creating a 24-page book. The book promotes the company and its apparel via illustration of the periods of fashion from which it draws inspiration - informing women of the fashion it stocks in a commemorative way. The text gives an insight into the store and encourages females to add something retro to their wardrobe.

NIHRC

More info

I used a variety of contrasting typefaces and a strong but limited colour palette to create a striking and informative animation. The message within each letter further demonstrates the significance of our rights as human beings. I created the sound to add an edgy feel to the screensaver and strengthen its appeal to young people. The viewer is encouraged to watch it to the end, when the whole message is revealed.

Schuh

More info

Poster designs for the shoe store, Schuh. In an attempt to break way from the glossy photography Schuh currently use, I used mixed media to create a youthful and edgier atmosphere to their advertising.

Ness

More info

I decided to rebrand Ness Lifestyle & Garden Centre in order to express the essence of the business and their principles within the identity. I created a new logotype for Ness and subsequent subsidiary logos for services on offer within the business: Sharon Peaker Flowers, Ness Café and Ness Landscapes. Using clean, contemporary design and a limited colour palette I produced a variety of outcomes: stationery, plant labels, vouchers, store bags, website design, promotional leaflet, and signage. I aimed to create a strong identity that could be applied throughout the Garden Centre. The re-brand is fresh, inviting and sophisticated, promoting Ness Lifestyle & Garden Centre as a beautiful and interesting place to visit and offering a top quality service.
